Grayslake Fatal Car Accident Today: 19-Year-Old Killed at Washington Street and Atkinson Road – A fatal car accident occurred this afternoon in Grayslake, Illinois, leaving a 19-year-old man dead and an 86-year-old woman injured, according to official reports.
The crash was reported at approximately 2:15 p.m. today near the intersection of Washington Street and Atkinson Road, where local police and emergency responders were dispatched following a serious two-vehicle collision.
Authorities say a black Volkswagen driven by the 19-year-old was traveling eastbound on Washington Street when it struck a blue Toyota SUV that was attempting to turn south onto Atkinson Road. After the collision, the Volkswagen left the road and collided with a traffic light pole.
The young driver of the Volkswagen was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was later pronounced dead by medical personnel. The Toyota’s 86-year-old driver was also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Grayslake Police Department, with support from the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team, is investigating the cause of the collision, and no further details have been released at this time.
